By recognizing the value the human talent provides, the company creates a healthy workspace that invites workers to reach for success, for success will not go unnoticed. Part of the feedback loop is to give positive reaffirmation to positive outcomes. Additionally, a quality-focused company, that places value in both end-result and process, knows that they have to celebrate and congratulate victories. Not just that, but it also allows the company to have a ready pool of professionals to tackle different positions with a word’s notice, favoring this avoids the possibly lengthy search for an external hire.
#Focused definition professional
By doing this the professional works and grows alongside the company, creating a sense of belonging and sharing their core values. They seek to better themselves and for that goal, they promote their own talent for new positions and challenges, instead of just hiring externally. Working over-capacity is figurative seppuku for quality, and knowing this, the best to do is to prepare for growth, to be proactive instead of reactive, allowing for breathing room instead of it being a chaotic rush.Īnd finally, quality-focused companies are aware of the journey and of their talents. A quality-focused company invests in capacity, for they know there will come a time where their resources and talents will become overstretched. Quality, which established strives for perfection, cannot be acquired without iteration, without taking a step back and re-evaluating to improve.Īnother hallmark of a quality-focused company is the mind to expand sustainably. For a company to even become quality-focused, they have to collect and analyze data, they have to devote attention and resources to the feedback loop. If as a company we establish a reputation through the quality of our work, then said reputation will avail us for future relations.īut for a company to be quality-focused, it cannot be all about the end product, but also about the process as well. There is always a negotiation between cost and benefice, between price and the quality of what we acquire. The inherent value in this comes in that we as customers seek quality. The first thing quality-focus begins in a company is that through aspiring to reach quality, they set expectations for the customer. Now that we’re all on board with a unified definition, we can begin to explore just how a person or company becomes quality-oriented in their services or products. Quality also provides our product or service with value, since it’s something useful and continuously improving. To me, Quality is the characteristic of something: A product or service, that performs its intended job suitably in a manner that strives towards perfection. I think we can work out our own definition by incorporating parts of all the previous ones ASQ provides us with, thus complying with them saying it’s a subjective term. Yet according to Philip Crosby, quality is “conformance to requirements”, meaning that anything that is produced that conforms to set expectations, has quality to it.
The more usability something has, well the more quality it possesses. A Joseph Juran defines quality as “fitness for use” meaning that anything that is useable has inherent quality. If we ponder on that something without deficiencies is close to perfection, then, therefore, quality strives for perfection of product or service, right?ĪSQ gives us two more definitions by two different individuals.

We can define quality as the group of characteristics of a product or service that bear on its ability to satisfy stated or implied needs-meaning quality is a trait of a product that through its inherent characteristics, does its intended job and does it well.Ī second definition gives us a shorter line to work with: a product or service free of deficiencies. But if we keep reading, good ASQ gives us two workable alternatives. I’d to start with the American Society of Quality (ASQ), which gives us a very unfulfilling definition: A subjective term for which each person or sector has its own definition.Īnd that doesn’t really get us anywhere. But I think that through stating its definition we can rally behind a singular idea. In this case, one might think the word quality requires no real explanation. I always like to begin with setting the basis of whatever subject we’re talking about.
